Benjamin Holmgren is the founder of Ground Crew and host of the Built To Serve event. Through workshops and peer groups, he helps companies simplify operations, become better leaders, and create companies that serve well for the long-term.

Who this is for

You own a business and lead people, but you often feel like you’re winging it. You want to honor God, serve others, protect your family, and build a business worth working for. You’re looking for clarity on improving your business in a way that helps everyone you work with.

If that sounds familiar, this workshop is for you.

What to expect

I’ve spent the last few years bringing together excavation and heavy civil contractors for workshops and peer groups. What makes these valuable isn’t fancy content or professional speakers, it’s getting real practitioners in a room who are willing to be honest about their struggles, not just their successes.

You won’t sit through PowerPoint presentations about theory. You’ll hear from guys who’ve actually built businesses like yours, made the mistakes you’re trying to avoid, and figured out some things that work. You’ll spend time in small groups with 4-6 other owners at your stage, actually talking through the stuff you’re dealing with right now. You’ll leave with practical frameworks you can implement Monday.

The format is panels, small group discussions, working sessions where you build actual plans, and honest conversations about the things nobody usually talks about. It’s direct, practical, and grounded in both Biblical wisdom and real business experience.

This particular workshop applies that same approach to the questions Christian business owners are wrestling with, questions about ambition and guilt, loneliness and leadership, money and stewardship, scaling and family. It’s not a separate “business track” and “faith track.” It’s about helping you integrate all of it into one coherent life instead of keeping everything in separate boxes that don’t fit together.

The Venue: Black Desert Resort

Black Desert Resort sits right outside Snow Canyon State Park in southern Utah, surrounded by red rock cliffs and desert landscape. It’s a new place that’s super nice without being over-the-top fancy, perfect for some quiet time away.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable with good views. There’s a big spa if you want massages, outdoor pools to relax by, and plenty of hiking nearby including Zion National Park about an hour away. Several restaurants on-site serve good American food in a laid-back setting.

You can keep it simple, lounge by the pool, take a morning hike together, grab a decent meal, and enjoy the fire pits at night under the stars. It’s a great spot to unwind, get some fresh air, and actually talk to each other without a bunch of noise and commotion.

Please feel free to bring your spouse and make this a vacation! Spouses are welcome to join us for the dinners. We’ll share a list of things to do around the resort and St. George during day as the workshop sessions are held.

Where will Built To Serve be held?

Built To Serve 2027 will be at Black Desert Resort in St. George, Utah.

What time does Built To Serve start? What time does it end?

Built To Serve 2027 will start the afternoon of Monday, March 15th with a welcome activity. The event will conclude on Wednesday, March 17th at 4pm.

Does my ticket include food?

Yes, we’ll serve breakfast and lunch both days at Built To Serve. On the nights dinner is not served, there are several restaurants on-site as well as in St. George. There will be coffee and other beverages in the workshops during the day.

Does my ticket include lodging?

No, but we will have a discounted rate at the resort through the Built To Serve room block.

Where should I stay?

We’ll reserve a room block at Black Desert Resort with discounted rates for attendees. If you choose to stay off-site, St. George is a short drive away.

What airport should I fly into?

You have two options:

St. George (SGU) is just 20 mins from the resort, but keep in mind that it’s a small airport with limited flights.

Las Vegas (LAS) is two hours from the resort, but has lots of flight options and great rates.

As the event gets closer, we’ll coordinate some carpooling for anyone flying into/out of Vegas.

How many tickets are available for Built To Serve 2027?

We expect around 50 attendees at Built To Serve 2027.

If I bring my wife or family, will they have stuff to do during the day while I'm at the workshop?

St. George is an awesome place for families. Very clean, tons of great parks, hikes, some shopping, and really good food and coffee.

If you’re staying at the Black Desert Resort, there are a few pools and hot tubs, a driving range, golf simulators, restaurants, and a huge fitness center right on site.

Spouses are welcome to join us for both workshop dinners!
